B i o g r a p h y

        Ben Barnett has had a longstanding and professional relationship with jazz music. As the grandson of a professional opera singer, music has always been a prevailing force in his life. Raised in Lynbrook, New York right on the border of Queens, Ben spent a lot of his childhood in between Lynbrook, Flushing, and Valley Stream the homes of his grandparents. 

             As a musician Ben has performed at places  such as Birdland, Smalls Jazz Club, Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, The Blue Note Jazz Club, the Cotton Club, Swing 46, The Falcon, Rue B, The Strathmore and many others. He has had the opportunity to share the stage with great musicians such as Arturo O'Farrill, Dr. Cornel West, Jon Faddis, Ellis Marsalis, Terrell Stafford, Jerry Dodgion, Steve Turre, Gary Bartz, Bobby Porcelli, David Gibson and others. He is a first call substitute trombonist for Arturuo O' Farrill and the Afro-Latin Jazz orchestra & the Cotton Club All Stars, and holds the second trombone chair in George Gee's 17-piece Swing Orchestra. 

 

             A graduate of the State University of New York at Purchase College, he was a student of Tim Albright within the Conservatory of Music, Jazz Studies program. He was also a student of John Fedchock's in the years of 2012 and 2013. At SUNY Purchase College, Ben had the opportunity to study with many great musicians including Jon Faddis, Hal Galper, Kenny Washington, and the entire Jazz Faculty staff at Purchase College. 

           Currently he is a manager at the world famous Small's Jazz Club in Manhattan.
